RONKONKOMA, N.Y. (AP) _ An Army National Guard helicopter crashed Tuesday night, killing one person and injuring three others.

The pilot and one other person were in critical condition, a hospital spokeswoman said. The third was in serious condition, police said.

The crash occurred at Long Island-McArthur Airport shortly before 8:30 p.m., police said.

The weather on Long Island’s East End was foggy Tuesday evening and visibility was poor.

Hector Comargo, an engineer from Los Angeles who was staying at the nearby Holiday Inn, said he heard the chopper make a strange sound, then crash to the ground.
