Advocates holding ‘Assembly for Life’ rally this weekend
BOSTON (AP) — Advocates are holding their annual “Assembly for Life” rally this weekend to urge lawmakers to reject an assisted suicide bill.
The event begins at 2 p.m. Sunday at Boston’s Faneuil Hall.
The rally will focus on a bill under consideration by the Massachusetts House that would let doctors prescribe life-ending drugs to terminally ill patients.
The bill would require that the patient have a terminal illness or condition that can reasonably be expected to cause death within six months. The patient must self-administer the drugs.
Massachusetts Citizens for Life President Anne Fox calls the bill a “threat to people with disabilities, people who are elderly or sick and those who already lack adequate health care.”
A similar question was put to voters on the 2012 ballot and lost narrowly.
