No Link Between Gadhafi’s Picture and Cocaine Find
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ Photos of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi taped to packages of cocaine seized in a raid were probably just labels to help Colombian drug suppliers keep track of their distribution, narcotics agents say.
″Mr. Gadhafi is innocent until proven guilty,″ Dennis Petrotta of the federal Drug Enforcement Administration said Wednesday.
Petrotta said there was no evidence of a link between Gadhafi and the $30 million cocaine bust in Foster City.
The wallet-sized pictures, cut from magazines and photocopied, were taped to many one-kilogram packages seized Tuesday in what was described as one of the largest raids ever in Northern California.
The raid yielded 382.8 pounds of cocaine in 174 2.2-pound packages.
″We don’t think there’s any particular significance to the Gadhafi pictures other than to keep track of who gets the loads and who gets the money,″ Petrotta said.
Two Columbian nationals were arrested in the raid.
