HOSKINS — A gathering in honor of Delwyn Ziegler, 85, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at the Hoskins Community Center. Burial will be at dusk at the Hoskins Cemetery.

He died Dec. 23, 2017.

Delwyn Ziegler was born on a farm outside of Creighton on April 25, 1932, to Dale and Pearl Anderson Ziegler.

Delwyn’s grandfather was the well-known auctioneer, C. W. “Billy” Anderson. His father had the Ziegler Tavern in Hoskins, sponsoring free outdoor movies in the summer. His mother was the first president of the Hoskins Parent-Teacher Association. With the rationing of World War II making business difficult, the family moved to Chicago.

Delwyn was baptized at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hoskins and confirmed after eighth grade while attending Tabor Lutheran Church School in Chicago. He joined the Catholic Church before marrying Claire Beaudet and was an active participant throughout his life. Their wedding was in Montreal, Canada, in 1965.

Delwyn graduated from Northwestern University, then served in the Army for two years. Delwyn also lived in Idaho, Arizona and California, where he completed his MBA and CPA at the University of Southern California. In 1970, with his spouse and two children, they joined the Peace Corps for two years and served in Colombia, South America.

Delwyn then returned to St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, Calif., as chief financial officer and held many responsible positions, as well as many community-minded tasks in his lifetime.

Delwyn’s celebration of life was held Jan. 19, 2018, with a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Steven’s Catholic Church in Sun Lakes, Ariz.

He is survived by his loving spouse, Claire of 53 years; a daughter, Colette of Sun Lakes; a son, Andre and his spouse, Laura, and his grandchildren, Alexander and Sara of San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Donna and spouse Roger Anderson; two brothers, Billy and spouse Marilyn and Orlen of California; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his oldest brother, Val Dean and spouse Lois.

The Ziegler family has many interesting and fond memories of their years in the Hoskins area. They invite you to reminisce with them and join them for an “any-time lunch” beginning at 2 p.m. at the Hoskins Community Center on Friday, Aug 17. Your visit will be memorable.

Interment will be at dusk, Delwyn’s favorite time of day, at the Hoskins Cemetery, where Delwyn’s Ziegler grandparents, parents and other family members are buried.
