Vienna Airport Bomb Scare Is False Alarm
VIENNA, Austria (AP) _ A terminal at Vienna’s international airport was evacuated after a suspicious suitcase was found but a bomb squad later determined that the bag contained no explosives.
Terminal 1 at the airport was evacuated after an abandoned suitcase was found at 9:50 a.m. local near a check-in gate, Lt. Col. Albert Zeman of the airport police said. An initial check with specialized equipment indicated it could contain a bomb, Zeman said.
Experts from a bomb squad that investigated the suitcase closer told journalists at the airport that the bag contained no bomb. Instead, it held electrical equipment that posed no danger, said police spokesman Rudolf Gollia.
The terminal was reopened just before noon, Gollia said.
