2 Gallatin County men injured in small plane crash
TOWNSEND, Mont. (AP) — Two Gallatin County men in their mid-30s were injured when a small airplane struck a power line southeast of Helena.
Broadwater County Sheriff Wynn Meehan said Thursday deputies are still investigating and interviewing witnesses about what may have led to Wednesday’s crash near Townsend.
One man was flown to a hospital in Salt Lake City for treatment and the other was flown to Great Falls. Meehan didn’t have an update on their conditions Thursday and did not release their names.
Meehan says the plane took off from Belgrade just after 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, landed briefly at an airstrip near Townsend and was flying around the area when the crash occurred.
Meehan said the National Transportation and Safety Board was expected to investigate.
The crash was discovered by a NorthWestern Energy crew investigating a power outage.
