Annual Lunch at Woman’s Club

GROTON -- The Groton Woman’s Club will hold its annual luncheon on Friday, May 17 at the Hilton Hotel at Devens Common. The event begins at 11 a.m. and will include the annual installation of officers.

Plan to limit underage drinking

BILLERICA -- Billerica Police will conduct undercover alcohol compliance checks at establishments around town throughout the month of May. The checks will be random and establishments will not be given advanced notice of the checks. The purpose is to stress the importance of keeping alcohol from minors and ensure that establishments are doing so.

‘Battle of Badges’ in Lowell

LOWELL -- The Lowell Fire Department and Lowell Police Department have partnered with UMass Lowell and the American Red Cross to host a “Battle of the Badges” blood drive. It will be held from 1-7 p.m. Thursday at the UML Recreation Center, 322 Aiken St., Lowell.

Jiu-Jitsu spars for House of Hope

LOWELL -- The Paradigm Jiu-Jitsu Academy will hold a “roll-a-thon” benefit to support Lowell House of Hope on Saturday, May 18, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the academy, 109 Industrial Ave. East #3.

A “roll-a-thon” form of grappling that requires great discipline and respect. Participants will “roll” or spar/grapple with other attendees non-stop. The rolls last for six minutes each, and people rotate partners accordingly. A potluck will follow.

All women are welcome (Jiu-Jitsu fighters or not). We will be collecting items to put together toiletry bags for ladies, which we will be donating to House of Hope.

Scholarships by Good Neighbor

PELHAM -- The Pelham Good Neighbor Fund will be awarding two or more $2,500 scholarships. The scholarships will be funded in part by Wireless Zone Foundation for Giving. The criteria to qualify:

* Must be a Pelham resident.

* Formal Acceptance to a two- or four-year college or technical school.

* Copy of letter of acceptance from the college or technical school.

* Demonstrated financial need.

* Provide a copy of your high school transcript.

* Work history, community involvement and/or school activities.

Applications are at the PHS Guidance Office or www.pelhamgoodneighborfund.org . The application must be returned by May 25 to: Bonnie Ward, 19 Clark Circle, Pelham 03076.

Town hosts cable license hearing

BILLERICA -- The town will host an ascertainment hearing to gather information needed to renew its cable license with Comcast on Tuesday, May 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Conway Room at Town Hall. The cable license, among other items, defines the cable system design for the town, maintenance and operations, services and programming, subscriber rights, consumer protection, performance tests and much more.
