NEW YORK (AP) _ Luther Rose closed strongly for a 2 1/4-length victory in the $47,000 allowance feature at Aqueduct Thursday.

Crafty Runner, who raced coupled in the wagering with Captain Red, was second in the field of eight. Tempered Appeal was another neck back in third.

The win was the second straight and sixth in 14 career starts for Luther Rose, who carried 117 pounds with Norberto Arroyo Jr. over six furlongs in 1:10 1-5.

The winner earned $28,200 for Chris Bouroudis and returned $13.60, $4.80 and $3.90. The Crafty Runner-Captain Red entry paid $2.30 and $2.20 and Tempered Appeal was $3.70 to show.
