Wake Forest 76, No. 14 N. Carolina St. 72

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) _ Gretchen Hollifield made six consecutive free throws in the game’s final 30 seconds to help Wake Forest to a 76-72 victory over 14th-ranked North Carolina State Tuesday night.

Wake Forest (10-7, 3-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) led by as much as 10 points early in the second half after having a 34-25 halftime lead.

North Carolina State (13-4, 5-3) worked its way back into the game, taking the lead for the first time at 57-56 on Chasity Melvin’s hook shot with 7:25 to play. Four lead changes and five ties later, the Demon Deacons took the lead for good on a 3-pointer by Hollifield to make it 69-66 with 1:46 left.

Hollifield scored 10 points and had six assists. The Demon Deacons were led by Val Hodge’s 19 points. Raeanna Mulholland added 18 points and had seven rebounds.

Umeki Webb and Melvin both scored 20 points for the Wolfpack. Nicole Mitchell added 11.
