Two-vehicle accident sends 6 people to hospital

A two-vehicle crash on West 8000S Road at Lehigh Road (South 7000W Road) sent six people to the hospital on Saturday.

According to Illinois State Police District 21, the accident occurred at 1:08 p.m. on the Kankakee/Iroquois County line.

A preliminary investigation indicated a GMC Yukon driven by Miguel Lara, 39, of Joliet, was southbound on Lehigh Road. A Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Frank Gonzalez, 59, of Chicago, was traveling westbound on 8000S Road.

The Yukon failed to stop at the intersection and struck the Dodge.

Occupants from both vehicles were transported to Riverside Medical Center with injuries.

Otto Township Fire was assisted by Aroma Fire, Chebanse Township Fire, Limestone Fire, Riverside Ambulance, Superior Ambulance and Iroquois County and Kankakee County sheriff departments.

Lara was issued tickets for failure to yield at an intersection and failure to notify Secretary of State of address change.
