Columbia County authorities looking for additional victims who may have been defrauded by Montello contractor
MONTELLO — The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is looking for more victims of a Montello construction contractor accused of taking money for work he never did.
The sheriff’s office arrested Logan M. Myers, 32, on two counts of theft in a business setting and felony bail jumping after a September investigation determined Myers stole more than $8,000 from two elderly victims, according to a news release. The victims reported they gave money to Myers in the form of down payments.
In March, the sheriff’s office arrested Myers after four other victims claimed they paid him for work he’d never done.
“There seems to be a pattern of criminal theft by Myers,” Sheriff Dennis Richards stated in the release. “Many of the victims were elderly, and based on the investigation, we believe more people were ripped off by Myers.”
Court records show Myers was found guilty Tuesday of theft in a business setting for the March cases. He will be sentenced in November.
The sheriff’s office is encouraging anyone with information concerning victims of Myers to contact the Det. Sgt. Ben Oetzman at 608-742-4166.
