Bulgaria Lifts Yugoslavia Oil Ban

June 17, 1999

SOFIA, Bulgaria (AP) _ Bulgaria lifted a ban on oil exports Thursday to neighboring Yugoslavia, the state news agency BTA reported.

The ban was imposed in April during NATO’s 78-day air campaign against Yugoslavia as part of international pressure on Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic to accept an international peace plan for the Kosovo province.

Yugoslavia is on Bulgaria’s main trade route to Europe. The government says it has complied with all international sanctions on Yugoslavia, causing substantial trade losses for Bulgaria.
