Slicers boys soccer drops tight contest

La Porte’s boys soccer team lost 2-1 at Wheeler on Tuesday night. Jose Villano scored on a free kick in the second half for the Slicers, who had several scoring chances in the game. The Bearcats netted the game-winning goal with three minutes left in the contest. La Porte won the JV match, 1-0.

La Porte girls soccer loses at Plymouth

La Porte’s girls soccer team fell 8-0 at Plymouth on Tuesday night.

Glenn girls golf wins tri, Slicers 2nd

John Glenn’s girls golf team claimed a triangular (195), compared to second-place La Porte’s 247 on Wednesday at Beechwood Golf Course. Wheeler had an incomplete team score. Abby Machnic earned match medalist and led the Falcons (19-6) with 41, and Megan Kobelt had 42. Bethany Hayden carded 52, and Elisabeth Klinedinst added 60. Maddie Fleshman paced the Slicers with 51, and Jayme Noll tallied 62. Ella Schable and Emma Mitschelen each had 67.

Falcons’ girls soccer thumps Riley, ties Panthers

John Glenn’s girls soccer team routed South Bend Riley 8-0 on Wednesday on the road. The Falcons’ Cydney Steward tallied two goals, and Analiese Hooten, Leena Thomas, Maddie Van Huss, Seja Lang, Maya Vermillion, and Morgan Plunkett all had one goal. Seja Lang, Sofie Klinedinst, Ryley Miller, and Hailey Rough each had an assist.

On Thursday, Glenn tied NorthWood 2-2 on the road. The Falcons’ Morgan Plunkett and Lizzie Miller both scored a goal. Seja Lang added an assist.

Glenn boys tennis splits pair

John Glenn’s boys tennis team fell 4-1 to Jimtown at home on Tuesday. At No. 1 doubles, the Falcons’ Alex Kruk and Brandon Goble prevailed 7-5, 0-6, 7-5.

Glenn rolled 5-0 at LaVille on Thursday. The Falcons’ Gabe Weiss cruised 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and at No. 2 singles, Anthony Kaser rolled 6-0, 6-0. Glenn won by forfeit at No. 3 singles, No. 1 doubles, and No. 2 doubles.

LP boys soccer schedule changes

Today’s scheduled La Porte boys soccer match with Lake Central has been postponed. It has been rescheduled for 5 p.m. Sept. 17 at Kesling Park. La Porte’s boys soccer home match against Mishawaka on Sept. 22 will start with the varsity, followed by a half of JV play. The varsity match will begin at 11 a.m.

Slicers/Lakers’ boys tennis schedule change

La Porte’s boys tennis home match versus La Lumiere scheduled for Sept. 19 will now be played on Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. at the LeRoy Courts. The 1968 Slicer state champions will be honored that evening.

Marquette boys tennis change

Thursday’s Marquette boys tennis match against Calumet that was rained out has been rescheduled for 5 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Elston Courts.

Blazers boys soccer time change

Marquette’s boys soccer match on Tuesday at Oregon-Davis has been moved to a 5 p.m. start, not 4:30 p.m.

Prep basketball officiating class at Marquette High

The Hoosier Athletic Officials Association (HAOA) will host an officiating class for anyone interested in becoming an IHSAA basketball official. Night Golf at Valley Hills
