Needles trounces Lady Patriots 13-2
BULLHEAD CITY — Summer Zimmerman’s first-inning, two-run home run gave the Lady Patriots a one-run lead, but the Lady Mustangs turned a close game into a rout with a huge fourth inning to prevail 13-2 at Mohave Accelerated Learning Center on Monday.
Zimmerman also singled to go 2 for 3 with one stolen base to lead the Arizona Interscholastic Association 1A West Region MALC squad’s attack against the Nevada Interscholastic Association 2A Southern League Needles High School team.
Payton Questel gave up nine runs on 11 hits, while striking out six, hitting one batter and walking four in four innings to take the loss.
Tori Meraz gave up four runs on four hits, while striking out four, hitting one batter and walking four in two innings after coming on in relief for MALC.
Questel, Meraz, Maisy Mulligan, Audrey Gee and Kasey Questel recorded one hit apiece for MALC, but that was not enough for the Patriots as the Mustangs tallied one run in the first inning, two in the second, six in the fourth and four more in the sixth to end the contest in mercy-rule fashion.
The Patriots’ defense committed just one error, but MALC’s pitchers issued 10 free passes to the Mustangs.
MALC’s record is 2-2 overall, 2-1 in the 1A conference and 2-0 in region, according to aiaonline.org.
Needles’ is 1-1 overall, according to MaxPreps.
