Parra, Rodriguez Beaten at World Cup

ERFURT, Germany (AP) _ Olympic gold medalist Derek Parra of the United States lost to Alexander Kibalko of Russia at 500 meters Friday in the Speedskating World Cup.

Kibalko finished in 36.29 seconds, with Parra next in 36.38, and Kevin Marshall of Canada third in 36.88. Chris Callis of the United States was fourth, followed by Jason Parker of Canada.

Parra won the 1,500 at the Salt Lake City Olympics and took the silver at 5,000.

In the women’s 500, Cindy Klassen of Canada edged Jennifer Rodriguez of the United States. Klassen crossed in 39.08, 0.14 ahead of Rodriguez, who won bronzes in the 1,000 and 1,500 at the Winter Games. Chiara Simeonato of Italy was third Friday in 39.62.
