Stetson 86, Jacksonville State 78

DELAND, Fla. (AP) _ Sophomore guard Garrett Davis scored a team-high 21 points, including four free throws in the final 33 seconds, to lead Stetson to an 86-78 victory over Jacksonville State on Saturday night.

Stetson, which shot a season-high 53 percent from the field, improves to 5-7 overall, 1-1 in the Trans America Athletic Conference. Jacksonville State drops to 2-9, 1-1.

Davis made 5 of 9 field-goal attempts and 11 of 11 free throws to lead five Hatters in double-figure scoring: Kennith Johnson (18), Chad Lambert (11), Fred Entenman (11) and Ryan Gladieux (10). Entenman, a 6-7 senior center, also had a game-high 12 rebounds.

Guard Aaron Kelley and forward Jay Knowlton led Jacksonville State with 24 and 23 points respectively. Knowlton also had a team-high six rebounds.

The Hatters, who led 35-25 at intermission, took a 75-55 lead on a three-pointer by Kennith Johnson with 4 minutes, 36 seconds remaining in the game.

Kelley then went on a tear, scoring 11 points in the final 4:21 as Jacksonville State pulled to 79-76 on a three-pointer by Arthur Johnson with 36 seconds remaining.

Davis’ free throws and another pair by Chad Lambert with 4 seconds left sealed the victory for Stetson.

Stetson played without third-leading scorer Nate Miller, whose brother Adam, 26, was killed Friday when struck by a car that crashed through the doors of an Indianapolis YMCA, where he was playing pickup basketball.
