PHOENIX — Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey is set to call the Legislature into a special session to enact a law he hopes will cut opioid overdose deaths. The Republican plans to call the session Monday. TAXI RIDES-911 CALLS
PHOENIX — The Phoenix Fire Department often uses — and pays for — taxi cab rides to take people who’ve called 911 to a hospital if the responding fire crew decides the situation doesn’t warrant an ambulance. The number of taxi rides has grown — overwhelmingly so for people in poor neighborhoods — as fire officials wrestle with more calls and limited resources, the Arizona Republic reported Thursday.
— FATAL SHOOTING-CHINO VALLEY — Authorities say a man was fatally shot in Chino Valley after he drove a pickup truck onto a property unannounced, became stuck in a garden area and fired at least one gunshot.
— GLEN CANYON REC AREA — Authorities say the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Rainbow Bridge National Monument are accessible to the public during the government shutdown.
