Daniel Pauley

Age: 18

Occupation: Skagit Valley College student-athlete. “I work at the college as a student athletic trailer.”

Job duties: “The majority is taping ankles, keeping the training room open so people can get ice. I’ll occasionally work at games, home games.”

Inspiration for the job: “I studied training in high school at Mount Vernon. John Banaszak was my teacher and that piqued my interest.”

Experience with training: “As a soccer player I’ve been injured. I’ve enjoyed my time rehabbing though because it’s interesting to know the body, to know how to get a player back on the field.”

Farthest ever traveled: “I went to Ecuador for my grandparents’ 50th wedding anniversary. And we went to the Galapagos Islands, which are part of Ecuador. They were super cool. We took a cruise ship between them for five days and were able to go on land, too. The animals are cool. They don’t react to you. There was a bird right in the path and we had to walk around him.”

Experience at Skagit Valley College: “The teachers have been great. They’ve been so accommodating. You hear stories before you enroll, like, ‘They’re going to be so strict.’ But they’re human.”

Future plans: “I’m planning to become a physical therapist. (After Skagit) I’ll transfer to Eastern Washington.”
