WESTFIELD, Mass. (AP) — State police say an SUV struck a moose on the Massachusetts Turnpike, killing the animal and severely damaging the vehicle.
The driver was not seriously hurt.
Police tell The Republican (http://bit.ly/15U3jxF ) that a Nissan Pathfinder collided with the moose in the eastbound lanes of the highway near the Russell-Blandford town line at about 3 a.m. Monday.
Police say the moose died on impact and had to be removed from the roadway with a bucket loader.
The Pathfinder was towed from the scene.
