Sunny, cold Tuesday before snow moves in again

February 19, 2019

On Tuesday, we have a calm weather day with plenty of sunshine and temperatures about 5 to 10 degrees below normal for this time of year.

And then on Wednesday, it’s back to some snow, a wintry mix and rain into Thursday morning, the National Weather Service says.

With cold temperatures in place, precipitation will begin as snow, overspreading the region from southwest to northeast Wednesday afternoon into the evening.

That will could cause some slippery road conditions during Wednesday’s afternoon and evening commute.

The NWS’s hourly forecast for southwest Connecticut has a chance of snow Wednesday from noon to 5 p.m. Snow is likely from 6 to 10 p.m.

As temperatures slowly rise Wednesday night, snow will change to a wintry mix and eventually all rain before coming to an end Thursday morning. The transition to plain rain will occur first along the coast, then slowly move inland through the overnight hours.

Snowfall accumulations priorto the transition will generally remain less than 2 inches, with up to a tenth of an inch of freezing rain possible across the interior.

The NWS is forecast less than an inch along the I-95 corridor in southern Connecticut to about 1.5 inches in northwest Connecticut.
