Man assaulted in bathroom of Park Street Library, Madison police say

A 61-year-old Madison man had to be taken to the hospital Wednesday evening after being assaulted in the bathroom of the public library on South Park Street.

The assault was reported at about 7:50 p.m. at the Goodman South Library, 2222 S. Park St., Madison police said.

The man sustained a baseball-sized knot to the back of his head and his eyes were almost swollen shut, the release said. He was tackled and repeatedly punched in the head by the assailant.

“The victim said he had been in a past confrontation with the suspect, but he was unable to remember the man’s name,” said police spokesman Joel DeSpain.

The suspect is a black male in his 50s, 5 feet, 9 inches tall, 200 pounds. No clothing description was given.
