Elks to host New Year’s Eve dinner

December 27, 2018

SCOTTSBLUFF — Continuing tradition from years past, the Elks Lodge New Year’s Eve dinner is returning for its second straight year.

Elks member Becki Thomlison said that many valley residents remember the family dinners that the Lodge used to host in the large dining room before the tradition just seemed to fade away over the years. So last year, Elks Lodge volunteers decided to bring the event back.

The evening is open for the entire family starting at 6 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 1614 First Ave. in Scottsbluff. Dinner is at 7 p.m. with either prime rib or large shrimp on the menu. Tickets are $25 per person, and only 200 will be sold. The dinner tickets with your selection of prime rib or shrimp need to be ordered by calling the ELKS Lodge at 308-632-2622 or Sharon at 308-631-1115.

In addition to dancing music and a silent auction, the evening will feature a gun or cash raffle. The grand prize is a Benelli Super Black Eagle 3 shotgun with Tech3 Camo or $1,000 in cash.

For second place, the prize is either a Henry Golden Boy .22 caliber rifle or $500 in cash. Third place prize is $350 in cash.

Raffle tickets are $20 each or six for $100. Those who purchase six tickets will have their names included in a separate drawing for a $25,000 lifetime Commander membership to Front Sight Firearms Training Institute in Nevada.

Gun/cash raffle tickets are available by calling Steve Thomlison at 308-436-7123.

“Our first event last year went really well,” Thomlison said. “We had a capacity crowd in the dining room and everyone was excited. People were happy to see the family dinners and the fun back again. We hope to make this an annual family event where everyone is welcome.”

The New Year’s Eve dinner isn’t the only event the Elks volunteers schedule to reach out to the community. Around Christmas, they pack Christmas baskets to take to families around the area. They sponsor scholarships and community program grants, plus schedule youth activities and drug awareness programs. The Elks have shuffleboard and pool leagues that play regularly at the Elks.

The Elks Lodge is also available to the community for business meetings, Christmas parties and class or family reunions. They also host weekly Bingo on Wednesday evenings, and craft/vendor shows and bake sales monthly.
