OTTAWA (AP) _ The Ottawa Senators recalled center and top prospect Jason Spezza on Wednesday night.
The Senators made the move after Radek Bonk was injured in Ottawa’s 4-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes. Bonk, the team’s top center, injured his chest and finished the game, but he experienced pain after the game. He will be re-examined Thursday, and was listed as day-to-day.
Spezza, the second overall pick in the 2001 entry draft, will join the team in Boston for Ottawa’s game against the Bruins on Thursday night.
Spezza, 19, was demoted at the end of training camp for the second straight season. He had three goals and three assists in six games with the AHL’s Binghamton Senators.
He was a key part of a trade that sent Alexei Yashin to the New York Islanders.
