LONDON (AP) _ European stocks ended mostly higher Thursday, with light gains across the board in early trade and a late surge by technology stocks

The Dow Jones Euro Stoxx Index, which tracks companies in countries that joined the single currency, rose 6.71 points to 433.33. The Dow Jones Euro Stoxx 50 Index rose 70.2 points to 5,271.1 and the Dow Jones Stoxx 50 Index rose 59.3 points to 5001.1.

Market activity was light across Europe as many investors held off until after Friday's release of U.S. payroll data. It was also a public holiday in many parts of Europe, including Germany and France.

London's FTSE-100 Share Index rose 111.2 points, or 1.7 percent, to 6,470.5, on provisional volume of 1.3 billion shares. Frankfurt's Xetra DAX Index rose 2.3 percent to 7,272.76.

In Paris, the CAC-40 Index ended up 2.7 percent to 6,599.71, with movements exaggerated by thin trade. The Mibtel index rose 1.9 percent, to 31,800.
