1 Dead in Ohio Office Shooting
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) _ A state employment bureau manager allegedly shot and killed one of his workers today and then critically wounded himself.
The gunman, identified as the director of business management for the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services, shot the chief of the office services section in their workplace just before 9 a.m., authorities said.
Shasta S. Dotson, 40, of Columbus, who has worked at the bureau since 1983, died at the scene, said Lt. John Born, spokesman for the State Highway Patrol.
She was shot by William Evans, 51, of Columbus, an employee since 1985, Born said.
Evans was in critical condition at Grant Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the head, hospital spokeswoman Janet Porter said.
Broadcast reports said the two workers had previously dated. Agency spokesman Dave Garick could not confirm that report.
He said the shooting happened on the second floor of a six-story downtown building that houses about 500 employees. Work continued on the other floors, but the second-floor employees were allowed to go home after being interviewed by police and offered counseling.
