Velarde woman worries she and her grandchildren will face homelessness
A 50-year-old Velarde woman says her husband left two years ago and she now lives with three grandchildren.
She says she works six days a week cleaning houses and sells cans and scrap metal.
“I have been trying so hard,” she wrote in her application. “I just can’t seem to get ahead.”
She says she has fallen behind on bills for utilities and housing for her and her grandchildren and worries they will become homeless.
“I’m a good person,” she wrote. “I don’t drink, do drugs or gamble.”
She is among hundreds of people seeking help from the Empty Stocking Fund this season.
