LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) _ Urbano Lugo, a non-roster pitched, allowed three hits over five innings as the Detroit Tigers beat the Cincinnati Reds 5-1 Tuesday night for their first exhibition victory.

Lugo, 4-7 in 37 games with California and Montreal since 1985, struck out four. He allowed a solo home run by Paul O’Neill in the fourth inning.

Eric Stone, the third Detroit pitcher, worked the last two innings for a save.

Neil Allen, trying to make the Reds as a non-roster player, was charged with all four Detroit runs, but none earned. Allen, who hasn’t won since going 5-3 with the New York Yankees in 1988, gave up two hits, walked two and struck out one in the fifth.

Lloyd Moseby started the Detroit rally with a single and stole second. Larry Sheets walked and Chet Lemon reached on Allen’s error to load the bases.

Allen walked Scott Livingstone to force Moseby home. Sheets scored on an RBI grounder by Johnny Paredes and Travis Fryman singled to drive in two more.

The Tigers added a run in the eighth off Mike Roesler, the fifth pitcher for the Reds.

Both teams are 1-1 in Grapefruit League play.
