MORAGA, Calif. (AP) _ Center Jumoke Horton scored a career-high 20 points and had seven rebounds as he led St. Mary’s to a 72-59 West Coast conference victory over Pepperdine on Saturday.
Pepperdine (4-10, 0-2) came within single digits once in the second half, when Khary Hervey sank two free throws with 6:48 remaining, making the score 56-47.
But St. Mary’s (6-7, 1-2) pushed the lead to 19 on a 12-2 run capped by Horton’s lay up with 2:32 left to take a 68-49 lead.
Paul Johnson sank one of his four 3-pointers with 11:34 left in the first half to cap a 12-1 St. Mary’s run, bringing the score to 20-9.
Holding the Waves to 21 percent shooting, the Gaels built their lead to 37-21 at the half.
For the Waves, guard Gerald Brown scored 20 points and Monte Marcaccini added 12 points and nine rebounds.
Chris Johnson added 16 points and Brent Farris had 15 for St. Mary’s.
