WEDNESDAY: Commerce Department releases new home sales for August, 10 a.m.; Federal Reserve policymakers meet to set interest rates, statement scheduled for 2 p.m.

THURSDAY: Commerce Department releases durable goods for August, 8:30 a.m.; Commerce Department releases second-quarter gross domestic product, 8:30 a.m.; Freddie Mac, the mortgage company, releases weekly mortgage rates, 10 a.m.; National Association of Realtors releases pending home sales index for August, 10 a.m.

FRIDAY: Commerce Department releases personal income and spending for August, 8:30 a.m.

Washington — Justice Department meeting with state attorneys general on concerns about whether social media companies are “stifling the free exchange of ideas.”

WEDNESDAY, Sept. 26

Washington — Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee hearing on safeguards for consumer data privacy. Among those scheduled to testify are executive from AT&T, Amazon, Google, Twitter and Apple.

Washington — House Education and the Workforce Committee hearing on First Amendment rights on campus.

Washington — House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on Myanmar’s crackdown on Rohingya Muslims.

Washington — House Foreign Affairs subcommittee hearing on Iranian proxies in Iraq.

Washington — House Foreign Affairs subcommittee hearing on China’s crackdown on Uighurs, one of the country’s Muslim minorities.
