Police: Hit-and-run killed horse pulling Amish buggy
NEWPORT, N.Y. (AP) — New York State Police say they are searching for the vehicle involved in a hit-and-run collision with an Amish buggy that resulted in the death of a horse.
The Utica Observer Dispatch reports the buggy was hit from behind by a blue Chevrolet Traverse traveling east in the Herkimer County town of Newport Wednesday morning. Police say the driver of the buggy, 39-year-old Christ Zook, was not injured.
Trooper Jack Keller says the horse suffered a severed leg in the crash, and attempted to continue pulling the buggy down the road. Keller says the horse had to be euthanized.
Officials say the suspect’s vehicle likely has significant front-end damage. Anyone with information is asked to contact state police.
