September’s American Legion Auxiliary Pitterle-Beaudoin Unit 189 meeting will be held Thursday. A 5 p.m. craft session will precede the 6 p.m. call to order at the post, 206 S. First St., Watertown. The executive board will meet following the business meeting.
The Badger Girls have been invited to share their experiences from their week-long adventure at the 75th session of Wisconsin Badger Girls State. The June event is held annually on the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh campus.
Music Month is celebrated in September, and co-chairs Sally Schliewe and Judy Zillmer will share a few notes with the group.
Delegates will be chosen for the Jefferson County Council meeting in October.
Cents-off coupons and small hotel-size shampoos and creams can be brought to monthly meetings. Coupons should be clipped as if taking them to the store to use, and can include personal care and baby items as well as easily found foods. New products are not readily available overseas. Military families can, however, use coupons up to six months past the expiration date.
Keep in mind that it does take time to sort, package and ship. The hotel shampoos and creams are donated to the VA hospitals for use in welcome totes, which veterans receive on admittance.
Members are also reminded to track all volunteer hours and any personal donations, which will then be recorded at meetings. This information is processed at every state’s headquarters, sent to National to tally and presented to Congress, where veteran funding is decided.
Unit 189 will host a leadership seminar entitled “I’m a Member. Now What?” Saturday, Oct. 20, from 9 a.m.-noon at the post. A sign-up sheet will be available Thursday night. An invitation will be extended to the other seven units within the county.
