Kidnapping suspect rejects plea deal, could face 450 years
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. (AP) — A Delaware man charged with assaulting, robbing and kidnapping an elderly couple will go to trial after rejecting a plea deal.
Authorities say 29-year-old Steven Snell is charged with two counts of kidnapping, three counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, possession of a deadly weapon while committing a felony, home invasion, assault, vehicle theft and offensive touching.
The Delaware News Journal reports the Justice Department said Snell could face up to 450 years behind bars if he loses his case. The plea deal could have brought it down to just 14 years, but public defender Robert Robinson says Snell rejected it.
Investigators say Snell broke into the home of an 80-year-old couple last July and assaulted and robbed them, one day after being released from prison on burglary charges.
