MURPHY — Sutherlin came from behind to win the season opener, 16-13 over Hidden Valley on Friday.
The Bulldogs (1-0) trailed 13-9 at halftime. Cade Meisner scored a touchdown on a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter to get the lead and the win.
Meisner, a senior quarterback, rushed for 55 yards, ran for a touchdown and threw a TD in the second quarter to Bryce Anderson.
″(Meisner) played his guts out,” Sutherlin coach Josh Gary said. “I was totally happy with the defense. We had a couple of botched assignments, but other than that we played lockdown defense.”
Sutherlin held the Mustangs to two yards rushing. Brandon Carr was able to kick a pass away in the endzone on fourth and 10 to preserve the win.
Sutherlin will play at Taft next Friday.
