Being Frank: De Boer says he’s staying at Ajax next season
AMSTERDAM (AP) — Ajax coach Frank de Boer is staying in Amsterdam next season.
De Boer, who has a contract through July 1, 2017, made clear he will continue to coach Ajax after the end of this season, the club announced on Friday.
“It’s about giving clarity,” De Boer said. “If clubs call on Marc (Overmars, Ajax’s director of football) or my agent I won’t open the door.”
De Boer has led Ajax to the last four Eredivisie titles, but is unlikely to make it five in a row. His young team is in second place, 14 points behind runaway leader PSV Eindhoven with 10 rounds to play. The teams meet on Sunday in Eindhoven.
Ajax is the only Dutch club left in Europe, being drawn earlier Friday to play Ukrainian team Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in the Europa League last 16.
