Carrigan wins Democratic nod in S Carolina 2nd District
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Sean Carrigan has won the runoff for the Democratic nomination in South Carolina’s 2nd Congressional District.
Carrigan, an Army veteran from Chapin, defeated West Columbia civil rights attorney Annabelle Robertson in unofficial results Tuesday.
It was a nasty primary. Robertson has said Carriagn’s supporters have been sexist bullies and questioned her personal life. Carrigan said he has nothing to do with the attacks and has run a positive campaign.
Carrigan characterizes himself as a moderate who can beat Republican U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, who is seeking a ninth full term.
American candidate Sonny Narang of West Columbia will also be on November’s ballot.
The western South Carolina 2nd District includes Aiken, Barnwell and Lexington counties as well as parts of Orangeburg and Richland counties.
