1 dead after car crashes into tree, catches on fire
PLAINFIELD, Conn. (AP) — Police in eastern Connecticut say one person has died after their vehicle crashed into a tree and burst into flames.
Police and firefighters responded to the wreck in Plainfield shortly after 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
Authorities say the person in the car was burned beyond recognition and the chief medical examiner’s office will try to determine the identity.
The cause of the wreck is under investigation.
Officials say the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it veered off the right side of Sterling Road and struck a large tree head-on.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the crash to call police.
