Joe De Sa, Baseball Player, Dies In Auto Accident
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) _ Former major-league baseball player Joe De Sa died in a head-on auto collision early Saturday at age 27.
De Sa, a first baseman, was playing for Ponce of the Puerto Rican winter baseball league. The crash, which killed the other driver as well, occurred about midway between Ponce and San Juan, police said.
De Sa, a resident of Honolulu, was signed by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1977 and played seven games with the Cards in 1980, hitting .273.
He signed as a free agent with the Chicago White Sox in 1983 and played 28 games in 1985, batting .182. Last summer, he played with Buffalo of the American Association, a White Sox farm club.
