Man robbed at gunpoint behind Giant Eagle on West 117th Street

CLEVELAND, Ohio — An armed Lorain man robbed a 35-year-old man behind the Giant Eagle on West 117th Street, police said.

A 35-year-old Lorain man suspected of committing the crime was arrested by Lorain police and state troopers in the westbound lane of Interstate 90 near the Abbey Road exit in Sheffield Lake. He was arrested by those agencies on suspicion of cocaine possession, police reports say.

The incident happened about noon Thursday. A 35-year-old Cleveland man told police that he was meeting a man with the nickname “Bo” behind the grocery store in order to buy a car, according to police reports.

He pulled into a spot and a black Kia Optima pulled up next to him, according to police. The passenger got out and sat in the buyer’s car, according to police reports.

The Lorain man pulled out a gun, pointed it at the Cleveland man and said: “You know what this is,” according to police reports.

The Lorain man reached into the Cleveland man’s pockets, grabbed $1,500 cash and ran back to his car, police reports say. A woman driving the Kia sped off.

The Cleveland man sped after the Lorain man on I-90, but lost sight of the man’s car, according to police.

The man eventually saw the Kia pulled over on the side of the highway. Lorain police stopped the car and called state troopers for help, according to police.

State troopers searched the car and found 37 grams of cocaine, according to police reports. The man was arrested on the drug charge, police reports say.
