Happy Smackah Foundation Seeks New St. Vrain Valley Beneficiary

February 6, 2019
A runner is congratulated after finishing the 2016 Happy Smackah in May 2016 at McIntosh Lake in Longmont. The Happy Smackah Foundation is seeking the beneficiary of this year's fun run.

Each year the Happy Smackah Foundation chooses a St. Vrain Valley School District student or staff member in need of financial help due to a health-related hardship and provides them with the proceeds from the annual Happy Smackah 5K Fun Run.

As the foundation prepares for the May 11 race, it’s also looking for this year’s beneficiary.

Recommendations for a beneficiary can be made online at happysmackah.com , or by contacting the Happy Smackah foundation via phone or email from now until Feb. 20.

The tradition dates back to 2011 when teacher Dan Cribby had his arm and shoulder amputated and needed skin grafts after developing a systemic bacterial infection. The Happy Smackah Fun Run was named after Cribby’s term for a person with a positive attitude, a “happy smackah.” Thanks to the help of the foundation, Cribby has since recovered and is teaching again.

Other past Happy Smackahs include Clara Shipp (2018), Braden Stevenson (2017), Frank Buck (2016), Kelly Haley (2015), Jill Woo Ching (2014), Andy Barela (2013), and Kaylee and Aubree Adams (2012).

In addition to a new beneficiary, the Happy Smackah foundation is seeking sponsors for the race. All sponsorships are tax deductible, and the foundation will provide sponsors with all of the necessary information. Those interested can visit the Happy Smackah sponsors page or contact the foundation at sponsors@happysmackah.com.
