MIAMI (AP) _ Free-agent point guard Bimbo Coles returned to the team where he started his career, signing with the Miami Heat on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-2 Coles played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics last season. In 35 games with the two teams, Coles averaged 4.4 points, 2.1 assists and 1.7 rebounds.

A 13-year NBA veteran, Coles will provide depth at a position where first-round pick Dwyane Wade is expected to start.

Originally the 40th pick in the 1990 draft by Sacramento, Coles was traded to the Heat in a draft-day deal. In five-plus seasons with the Heat, Coles averaged 9.1 points and 4.4 assists before being traded to Golden State in 1996 in the deal that brought Tim Hardaway to Miami.
