Klinsmann Trains With U.S. Soccer
LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Even with Bruce Arena trying several new faces in his rebuilding of the U.S. national team, there was one appearance that was a shock to nearly everybody: Juergen Klinsmann.
The former German national team captain donned U.S. training attire and worked out with the American team for two 1 1/2-hour sessions Sunday, taking part in drills and small-sided scrimmages.
``He was like everybody else,″ U.S. Soccer Federation press officer Brian Remedi said. ``We had some fans watching and they didn’t recognize him. He was totally low-key.″
Klinsmann, who effectively retired from soccer after the World Cup, moved to the United States with his American wife and lives about 20 minutes from the U.S. training site at UCLA.
The U.S. national team is preparing for its annual U.S. Cup tournament. On Thursday in Los Angeles, the United States plays Guatemala and Mexico plays Bolivia. On Saturday in San Diego, the Americans will take on Mexico, while Guatemala will meet Bolivia.
