Connecticut school in shock after sudden death of teacher
CHESHIRE, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut high school is in shock and mourning over the unexpected death of a former district teacher of the year.
Cheshire High School English teacher Megumi Yamamoto was reported missing Wednesday and her body was recovered from a wooded area in town on Thursday.
The death remains under investigation and an autopsy is scheduled but investigators say there is no threat to the public.
Superintendent Jeffrey Solan said that grief counselors would be available to students and faculty on Friday. He called the 48-year-old Yamamoto a dedicated teacher whose “smile and enthusiasm would immediately engage her students.”
Yamamoto had worked for the district since 1997 and was named the school’s teacher of the year in 2012.
According to court records, her husband filed for divorce last month.
