FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) _ Arkansas defensive tackle Jermaine Brooks was kicked off the team Wednesday after being arrested when police found 7 1/2 pounds of marijuana, guns and more than $16,000 at his apartment.
Fayetteville Police Chief Rick Hoyt said the local drug task force office learned that marijuana was being sold from Brooks’ home. Hoyt said a total of 10 1/2 pounds of marijuana were seized over the course of the investigation.
Brooks, a captain for Arkansas, was arrested at the apartment on Tuesday night. He was charged with illegal delivery of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver, simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Last season, Brooks started seven of 11 games and had 56 tackles, but he missed spring practice because of surgery on his left shoulder. Brooks had 14 tackles this season for Arkansas (3-3, 1-3 Southeastern Conference).
Brooks got his diploma in May in industrial technology and began the semester in graduate school.
