Window Washers Rescued from Downtown Building
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) _ A window-cleaner and a maintenance worker dangled against the ninth story of a building for 20 minutes Friday before firefighters shattered a window and pulled them, uninjured, inside, officials said.
The men were on a scaffolding outside the American Electric Power company headquarters here, more than 100 feet above ground, when one of the cables supporting the scaffold snapped, according to Ron DeCapio of Globe Window Cleaning Co.
The two men were supported by harnesses they were wearing, DeCapio said.
A climber, which powers the scaffolding on the side of the building, caused the cable to deteriorate, he said.
DeCapio identified the window cleaner as Eric Wilgus, 19. Identity of the maintenance worker was not immediately available.
