Girls Basketball | Lourdes drops season opener

ST. PAUL — The Lourdes girls basketball team opened its season with a loss Friday, but the Eagles were mostly sharp in falling 70-66 to Cretin-Derham Hall in the Twin Cities Thanksgiving Tournament at St. Thomas University.

“All in all, it was a good start, though we’d have liked to have won the game,” Lourdes coach Aaron Berg said.

Junior star Alyssa Ustby led the Eagles with 22 points. Carolyn Zobitz added nine and Anna Otto eight.

Lourdes struggled from the line, hitting just 5 of 10 free throws. CDH hit 5-of-11.

Lourdes plays again today, playing Benilde-St. Margaret’s at 11 a.m. in the tournament.
