Tulane 98, No. 24 Memphis 51

NEW ORLEANS (AP) _ Janell Burse came off the bench to score 18 points as Tulane beat No. 24 Memphis 98-51 Friday night.

Tulane (11-2, 3-1 Conference USA), stretched its home-court winning streak to five straight games this season, outshooting (52 percent to 32 percent) and outrebounding Memphis 53-42.

It was the second loss in the last three games for Memphis (10-3, 2-2).

Tulane had five players score in double figures _ Grace Daley had 22 points, Lacey Vicknair hit a career-high 17, Sarah Goree made 13 and Fabrecia Roberson scored 10.

Tulane had 36 points off turnovers to three for Memphis. The Lady Tigers turned over the ball 26 times to Tulane’s 16.

Tamika Witmore, last year’s CUSA player of the year and third in the country in scoring at 25.9 points a game, was the Lady Tigers’ high scorer with 23 points before she fouled out 2:05 left.

Yolanda Reed had 10 points for Memphis.

Memphis, the preseason pick to win the conference, ran into trouble early _ turning the ball over, shooting airballs, even making an inbounds pass that hit the backboard and bounced back out of bounds.

Memphis was leading 11-10 with 14:58 left in the first half when Tulane upped the pressure and went on an 18-2 tear to take a 28-13 lead with 11:32 left. Tulane outscored Memphis 40-14 in the last of the first half and led 50-25 at the break.
