S. Carolina man charged with wearing body armor for burglary
LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina authorities say a burglar broke into a home wearing body armor and pointed a pistol at someone in the house.
Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said in a news release the suspect broke into the home Wednesday morning. Koon said he forced his way into a bedroom and pointed a gun at a man inside.
The sheriff’s office says 27-year-old John Wayne McFatter faces charges including assault, burglary and wearing body armor during burglary.
Authorities say McFatter was arrested a short time after the burglary and had the gun with him. Koon said the armor was designed to protect someone against handgun rounds.
McFatter was being held in jail without bond.
A sheriff’s spokesman said he doesn’t know if the suspect has an attorney.
