Terry Staack, 78, of Columbus, passed away peacefully at home, with his wife by his side, on Monday, Nov. 26, 2018.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29, at First United Methodist Church in Columbus, with the Rev. Cindi Stewart officiating. Interment with military honors by The American Legion Crosier Post 226, will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday in the Evergreen Cemetery in St. Edward. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Gass Haney Funeral Home, and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Thursday at the church, with a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Memorials may be directed to those of the donor or family choice.

Terry was born on May 17, 1940, in Boone County (near St. Edward) to Gerald and Iola (Hirsch) Staack. After graduation from high school in 1957 from St. Edward, Terry entered the Navy, serving from 1958-1961. Upon returning home to St. Edward, Terry married his wife, Colleen Mills, on July 22, 1962, and moved south of St. Edward, farming, milking, and managing livestock until 1977 when they moved to Columbus where he began work in carpentry/construction with Johansen Construction. Terry left Johansen’s in 1984, to continue work in carpentry with Dale Electronics (Vishay) until his retirement in 2003. He made many friends at both locations, and cherished the relationships that formed from his years of working there. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbus.

Terry was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and a friend to all. Terry loved family first and foremost, spending many weekends with his family camping and canoeing the parks and rivers across Nebraska. He also had a passion for horse racing and carpentry, making many friends across the state and locally.

Terry is survived by wife of 56 years, Colleen Staack of Columbus; son, William (Pam) Long of Columbus, daughter, Lisa (Jim) Reynoldson of Omaha, son, Dave (Jackie) Staack of Clarksville, Tennessee, son, Dan (Peggy) Staack of Columbus, daughter, Deb (Dan) Augustine of Columbus, son, Don (Antje) Staack of Flower Mound, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Terry was preceded in death by parents, Gerry and Iola Staack; sister, Adrene (Staack) Noble; grandson Jeremy Long, and granddaughter, Angie Wilson.
