January 21, 2019

NANTICOKE — A 72-year-old man was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash Sunday night, according to police.

The man was walking across the 100 block of South Market Street around 10:25 p.m. Sunday when he was hit by a vehicle whose driver then fled the scene, police said.

The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Twp., where he was listed in stable condition, police said.

Police did not immediately release the man’s identity, saying they were working to contact and notify his family members.

The vehicle was described as an orange port-utility vehicle with roof racks, possibly a Honda CRV, police said. That vehicle was seen in the area immediately after the crash, police said.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or who can identify the driver is asked to call Nanticoke police at 570-735-2200, extensions 206 or 216.
