Robert Oft, 96, Greeley, Colorado

Robert “Bob” J. Oft, 96, of Greeley, Colorado, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 18, 2019, in Loveland, Colorado.

He was born July 21, 1922, in Blue Island, Illinois, to John and Anna (Liebich) Oft. He attended school in the Chicago area and earned a state award playing the drums.

Bob married Rose Marquess in 1942. He enlisted in the Navy during World War II on a sub chaser patrol craft. After serving his country, he came home and went into farming until 1957. Then he worked up to a market manager while with Jewel Companies, Inc. for 35 years. In retirement, Bob was a semi-truck owner/operator for two years. After that, he became the vice president of a construction company. He enjoyed music, dancing, hunting and fishing throughout his lifetime. Bob and Rose were married almost 50 years. They had a loving marriage and were blessed with six children. Rose went to be with the Lord in 1992.

Bob enjoyed going to the senior center activities where he met his second love, Zona Brown. They were married in 1998 for more than 20 years. They enjoyed ballroom and polka dancing, cruises, and trips together. Bob won first place in the 2016 Greeley Senior Talent show and second place in 2017 playing his harmonica.

He is survived by his wife, Zona; his brother Raymond Oft and family, Bob’s children Donald (Sharon) Ott, June (Richard) Esser, Jane (Robert) Niedermeier, Barbara, Linda (Robert) James, Larry (Marya) Oft; and stepdaughter, Sandie (Christopher) Erskine. Bob had 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 13 great- great-grandchildren.

Private Christian service and burial will be held at a later date in Brodhead.
